The gratitude I feel for having this man as a Dad, is tempered by just how painful it is not to have him around. That’s always the trade off for having someone so amazing in your life. I miss him every single day. The kindest, funniest, most generous of heart and spirit, a dad that always had time for each one of us, who gave his very best to us. If I am half the parent that he was, my kids will be fine. ❤️💕❤️

Mick and I shared a bedroom when I was about 8 years old. Mick would have been 21. He was my go to person and mentor. Consequently, I knew every Guy Mitchell song by the time I was 10. There was a time I was puzzled by the existence of heaven so I asked Mick "Is there a heaven"? Mick said "Let's think about that. Heaven is like Australia, I know it's there but I've never been". That answer was perfect for an 8 year old. How clever of Mick. He had a massive impact on me, in the way I thought, the moral code that he instilled in me, the shared sense of injustice in society. The list goes on and on. The only trait that I don't possess was his ability to stay calm whatever the problem. I loved him then and I love him now. I bet they are singing Guy Mitchell songs in heaven ..and Australia! He once accused me of liking Engelbert Humperdink's "Please Release Me" more than his favourite "If I ruled the World" by Harry Secombe. I know one of them went to the top of the charts. Not sure which one! Rest in Peace my precious brother.

There are so many memories of dear Mick. He wrote a stonking letter. My fave was to a teacher called Miss Cuff who was particularly unkind. It goes " Dear Miss Cuff, your name would be better spelt backwards!" Love and miss him every day.

My wonderful Uncle and God Father, always made you feel like you were the most important person in the room. His stories were mesmerising and usually hilarious! There was so much kindness within him it shone out, as did the immense love he had for his children and grandchildren. He is greatly missed and I still feel a warmth when I picture his smile and sparkling eyes, xxxx

Not much i can say to express the loss of Dad, except to say i still go to ring him on my phone sometimes and then remember, i still think in my head "I must tell dad that he will laugh " or " i will ask dad his advice he will know " then a second later my heart ❤️ sinks, sinks like a brick. Then i try and think what he would advise, love is a very powerful emotion and we should always try to cherish our loved ones, we should always think before we say hurtful things, we wont always become we are human, but we must keep trying, Dad was full of love , and remember, only love is real 💚xx

Rest in peace my great brother. Think about you every day Mick. I can remember when you first took me to see my beloved United play Arsenal on 1st February 1958. At half time there was a haze of blue smoke all over the ground from all the smokers! they played "smoke gets in your eyes by "The Platters" Little did we know eight of the players would be dead a few days later. We all huddled around the TV crying! If it hadn't been for you Mick I wouldn't have gone anywhere! Great Brother, great dad, you were like another dad to me too. When we were with you on one picked on us! The other thing you taught me, was never to vote for the Conservatives and Universe party, and I never have or never will!! Great memories. RIP Mick.

I had heard all about my uncle Mick from my Dad. But we didn’t get to see him because he lived up north. One day in Spring, he came down with his wife Jean to see us all. We went to the park and had a kick about. I could see that he was a brilliant footballer (as my Dad had told me) just from kicking around. We had a lot of fun that day. I felt welcome in his presence. He knew more about me than I realised at the time. When I look back I understand that he and my Dad would have chatted a lot on the phone about their kids. Anyway, I remember that special day as a happy, sunny moment in my life. If I had to guess on the date I would say that it was in May 1991. I remember this because Mick was trying to recreate a goal that Gazza had scored in an FA cup semi final v Arsenal. He succeeded of course. God bless my uncle Mick and all of his family X
